TRACE Junior Researcher Irene Massa presented the paper “The Invisibility Triangle: Being Queer, Older and Islander in Italy” at the European Sociological Association (ESA) Research Network 23 – Sexuality Mid-Term Conference, titled “Deviants, Sinners, and Rebels. Sexuality Studies in Times of Trouble.” The conference took place on 11–12 September 2025 at the University of Palermo, Italy.
The paper was presented in the second Sexuality and Ageing panel and focused on the intersecting marginalisations of sexuality, ageing, and insularity. It examined how older queer people living on Italian islands experience and negotiate forms of social and spatial invisibility.
