The Documentary Film Outlasting has been awarded Film of the Year at the 16th edition of the dezanove Awards, a key distinction within Portugal’s LGBTQI+ media and cultural landscape.
dezanove is an independent digital media platform dedicated to LGBTQI+ issues, with a sustained role in fostering visibility, critical reflection and collective memory in Portugal since 2007. Through its annual awards, dezanove offers a critical overview of the year, recognising relevant events, individuals, initiatives, cultural productions, etc across 23 categories, while also addressing challenges faced by LGBTQI+ communities during that year.
In the 2025 edition, Outlasting was recognised as Film of the Year. Co-directed by Ana Cristina Santos and Nuno Barbosa, the film centres on the life stories of older LGBTQI+ individuals from different national contexts, including Portugal, Italy, Greece, Malta and Slovenia.
Produced as part of TRACE, Outlasting reflects the project’s interdisciplinary approach to the study of LGBTQI+ life courses over time, combining academic research with cultural production and public dissemination. The award acknowledges the documentary’s social and cultural impact, as well as the importance of research-based creative outputs in advancing public dialogue.
