As the final event of the project “Uma Densa Nuvem de Amor / A Thick Cloud of Love”, the conference “Artivism, Queer Thought and Academia: Interactions” brought together Ana Cristina Santos (CES – University of Coimbra) and João Manuel de Oliveira (ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon).

Organised and chaired by António Fernando Cascais, this session explored the interactions between art, queer thought, and academia, engaging an audience of artists, students, and scholars at NOVA University Lisbon (Rectorate).

Over nearly a month and a half, the Rectorate of NOVA University Lisbon presented this curatorial project “Uma Densa Nuvem de Amor / A Thick Cloud of Love”, an initiative that seeks to bridge the academic and artistic spheres and foster dialogue on queer thought and knowledge production. Curated by Pedro Faro, the project brought together a selection of works by different artists in diverse formats, including visual arts, installation, performance, and film, and included presentations, performances, and lectures exploring the interaction between art, audiences, and academia.

As Pedro Faro writes, “This Thick Cloud of Love aims to be a small hypothesis of work, experience, gathering, discussion — certainly incomplete, yet seeking to provoke further dialogues between art and academia within the scope of LGBTQIA+ issues.”
