This paper discussed the tension experienced by older LGBTQI+ individuals in Portugal, who often feel torn between their self-identity and societal expectations related to age and ageing. Cristina highlighted the vulnerability of this population in the face of populism, anti-gender backlash, and extreme-right ideologies.

Drawing on biographic narrative interviews, this research focuses on the experiences of ageing with pride and pain, advocating for more inclusive policies and democratic societies.
