On August 28, 2024, Professor Ana Cristina Santos, PI of project TRACE, presented her paper titled โ๐๐ถ๐ปโ๐ ๐ ๐ฎ ๐ค๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ? ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ข๐น๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ค๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ด๐ฒ๐ถ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ปโ at the 16th European Sociological Association Conference in Porto, Portugal.
This paper discussed the tension experienced by older LGBTQI+ individuals in Portugal, who often feel torn between their self-identity and societal expectations related to age and ageing. Cristina highlighted the vulnerability of this population in the face of populism, anti-gender backlash, and extreme-right ideologies.
Drawing on biographic narrative interviews, this research focuses on the experiences of ageing with pride and pain, advocating for more inclusive policies and democratic societies.
