On August 28, PhD candidate Irene Massa presented her paper โ๐๐๐๐ง๐ค+ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ด๐ฒ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐๐ฎ๐น๐: ๐๐ป ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฎ๐น ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒโ at the 16th European Sociological Association Conference, in Porto, Portugal.
Her presentation explored the history of LGBTQI+ rights in Italy, characterised by a โrepressive tolerance,โ and the intersectional discrimination faced by older LGBTQI+ people.
Irene highlighted the unique challenges of this generation, including ageism, homonegativity, and the impact of HIV. Her research aims to understand the current experiences of LGBTQI+ people over 60 in Italy, amidst the growing threats from the extreme-right.
