On August 28, 2024, TRACE Researcher Dr Joana Brilhante presented her paper “𝗔 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗟𝗚𝗕𝗧𝗤 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲’𝘀 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗼” at the 16th European Sociological Association Conference in Porto, Portugal.

Brilhante’s research delves into Malta’s transformation from a nation with restrictive laws to a leader in LGBTQ legal protection. Her preliminary findings reveal the unique challenges faced by older LGBTQ individuals in Malta, bridging the gap between legal frameworks and lived experiences.
